To finish off your ghoulishly outstanding look, make sure your nails are designed to impress everyone this Halloween!  If you’re unsure of how to decorate your nails so that you’ll be in tip-top shape for this frightening holiday, fear not! Nail Expert Katie Saxton’s got you covered.

Katie Saxton, President of Custom Nail Solutions, has tips on some ghoulishly glam nail art that will help you win “Best Halloween Look” at any costume party. Try out any of the styles below that’ll be sure to turn heads and impress all.

Spooky Staples: Black and orange are the staple colors for Halloween, so feel free to spruce up your nails with either or both of these shades! Choose a solid black or solid orange mani, or alternate between orange and black for each nail. You can also use toothpicks to draw Halloween designs like little white “ghosts” and black “skulls” on each nail!

Zombified and Fabulous: If you plan to dress like the undead this Halloween, look the part with creepy zombie nails! Have gray polish, olive green polish, and a matte top-coat on-hand, as well as a make-up sponge. Dip the sponge in the gray polish and dab on each nail. Let it dry, then dip the sponge in the olive polish to create little dark green “moss” splotches on each nail. Once it’s all dry, add a clear matte topcoat to finish off the look!

Wicked Water Marble: Steal the spotlight at any Halloween get-together with this show-stopping design! Start off with a cup of room temperature water, a bottle of orange polish, a bottle of black polish, and a clear topcoat, as well as tape and several toothpicks. Place tape around the edge of the first nail, covering the cuticles. Add two drops of orange to the water and let spread, then add a drop of black polish in the middle of the orange polish, and add another drop of orange in the middle of the black. Next, use a toothpick to drag the edges of the polish to the center of the circle. Press your nail into the design and use a toothpick to scrape any excess polish away from the edges of the nail. Be sure to take the nail out of the water afterwards. Then, remove the tape and let it dry. Use another toothpick to clear the polish from the top of the water, and repeat the process with the rest of the nails. Don’t forget a glossy clear topcoat to complete the design!

Spooky Spider Webs: Spider webs are always an essential Halloween decoration, so don’t leave them out! Celebrate this creepy-crawly tradition by decorating your nails with an eerie spider web manicure! To create this design, start with a bottle of black polish, a bottle of metallic silver polish, a clear topcoat, and a few toothpicks. Paint each nail black and let it dry. Then, dip a toothpick in metallic silver polish and draw silver “rays” coming out of the center of each nail to the edges, and add swooping “spider web” lines between each of the rays. Let it dry and there you have it! A scary yet sophisticated spider web manicure that is guaranteed to shock everyone wherever you go this Halloween!

Cute Candy Corn Mani: No Halloween is accomplished without yummy candy corn! Celebrate this sweet and scrumptious tradition with a cute candy corn nail design! Paint a horizontal orange stripe at the base of each nail and let it dry. Then, add a yellow horizontal stripe above each orange stripe and let dry, and then paint the tips of your nails white. Don’t forget to add a glossy clear topcoat at the end!

Jumpy Jack-O-Lantern Mani: This manicure will surely top off any and all of your spooky festivities! To do this ghoulishly glam design, paint all of your nails orange and let dry, then, using a toothpick, paint a spooky black Jack-O-Lantern “face” on each nail. Make sure each face is different, and feel free to add the word “BOO” on a few nails if you’d like! Complete the design with a clear topcoat.

Crazy and Colorful Makeup:

Halloween is the greatest time for ladies to go all out in terms of what over-the-top makeup to wear. We all love to look the part of our favorite celebrities on holidays like this, so why not take it to the extreme? Your makeup can look ridiculous while also looking fabulous; we promise. This Halloween, if you’re looking for the how-to’s on using bold celebrity-inspired makeup (that’s crazy, colorful, or a mixture of both!), we’ve got you taken care of.

1. Katy Perry: Bold and Colorful

Katy’s ‘California Gurls’ look is perfect for Halloween. Its amplified, candy-coated inspiration makes it easy for you to get creative with your makeup kit. Simply use bright pink or electric blue eyeshadow (or even blend both colors if you’re skilled enough!) on your eyelids along with a light yellow or light gold eyeshadow inside the corners of your eyes. With a liquid liner, apply an even line starting from the inner corner of the eye and then begin creating a traditional Cat Eye look (thickening the line as you get closer to the end of the eye, accentuating and dramatizing the point near the end of your eyebrow). Next, add your go-to concealer on the browbone to highlight the applied eye makeup. To get Katy’s thick brows, fill your brows in with any eyebrow pencil in a heightened curve shape. Highlight those cheek bones with a pink or peach shimmery blush and go for the classic Katy cherry red lip using any bold lipstick of your choice.

2. Lady Gaga: Bold and Crazy

Lady Gaga is the queen of crazy face makeup, so it’s safe to say that all of her looks scream “perfect Halloween inspiration.” Although in her ‘Applause’ music video she’s big on using makeup with tons of bright colors, her pale, geisha-inspired look could be the perfect unexpected show-stopper for this holiday.

To get this look, use your everyday concealer and apply it over the entire face (including the lips, to give them a very pale appearance). Next, cover the concealer with face powder. If you want Lady Gaga’s geisha-inspired lips, use either a black or red eyeliner pencil (since she wears the geisha-inspired lips both ways!) to draw on the heart shape in the center of your top lip. Then, continue the rounded shape on your bottom lip, making sure both portions connect once the lips are closed. After the shape is made, fill it in with the eyeliner pencil color of your choice. Coat it with a lip balm to give it a waxy finish. With this easy look, your eyes won’t be the center of attention. Instead, keep them simple and put on a pair of the most dashing, dark, and circular Lady Gaga-esque sunglasses you can find!

3. Nicki Minaj: Bold, Crazy AND Colorful

Nicki Minaj is an artist who is notorious for showing off her unique and over-the-top makeup styles. You never know what type of look to expect from her, but it’s always the perfect combination of bold, crazy and colorful. This Halloween, get inspired by Nicki Minaj with one of her more common looks: the pastel-colored eyes. First, apply any creamy pastel-colored eyeliner pencil over your eyelids and gently smudge it into the eye with your finger to give it an evened look. With sharp, white eyeliner, outline the crease of your eye and create that Cat Eye look by slightly thickening the outer corner of the eye. Begin to apply a pastel-colored matte eye shadow (preferably the same or similar color you used for the eyeliner pencil) over your eyelids using a thick, oval-shaped brush. With a thinner, angled brush, go into the crease of the eye and apply a different pastel-colored matte eyeshadow that complements well. To give the eyes that bold appearance, apply black liquid eyeliner to the top lash line (right below the crease of your eye), going for that same Cat Eye look. Then, use creamy white eyeliner to line the bottom of your eyes. As a finished product to these bold, crazy and colorful eyes, whip out some false lashes and glue them to your natural lash line. Afterwards, apply a couple coats of mascara to dramatize them even more. For the lips, apply your favorite bright pink lipstick and coat it with a clear lip gloss and you’ll be good to go!
