The Setai Club & Spa Wall Street: A New Luxe Treatment That Will Leave You Feeling Like Cleopatra
My train has stalled, and, in fact, stops running entirely just one stop away from my destination. Emerging frustrated from the subway stairs and into the cold, blustery wind alongside a crowd of other unhappy commuters, I plow my way up Broad Street, artfully maneuvering through bankers and financial analysts on their way to the office, screaming in my mind, “out of the way! I’m on my way to a spa appointment to preview the new DayNa Decker Setai Sierra Renewal Treatment at Wall Street’s The Setai Club & Spa!“
As I exit the elevator on the third floor and step into the spa, I go from stressed to saved in a matter of minutes: The Spa at The Setai Wall Street offers a welcome respite from the chaos outside, beginning with its dark, soothing, and Zen-like ambience that envelops you like a luxurious robe from the minute you enter to the new and heavenly three-part bath and body treatment that follows.
As I slowly melt away in the freshly drawn, warm, and deep bath with a towel behind my head, soft music playing in the background, candles glowing in the dark, and—not to mention—a side table adorned with some of my favorite things, my stressful morning is erased as quickly as my body becomes submerged in the warm bath, which is accented with bath salts and essential oils to soothe and detoxify.
Did The Setai Spa secretly discover that I have a taste for dried figs, almond milk, and jasmine tea served in glasses, tea pots, and dishes laden with gold accents? In this moment, I feel more like Cleopatra than ever before, and I must say—it was a welcome feeling.
Beyond the snacks and bath that have me feeling like Cleopatra being fed grapes on a richly colored velvet lounge chaise (really, sometimes snacks and a bath are all it takes for me), two other factors that add to the luxurious essence of the experience are the sleek and dimly lit Serenity Suite, which features a massage table and marble shower, and the DayNa Decker Essence Body Collection’s Sierra line of products used in all parts of the Sierra Renewal Treatment—the bath soak, exfoliation, and massage. Note that the Serenity Suite is also used for couples body treatments, which, to me, sounds like a welcome change from couples massage, given the bath and shower time.
After about 30 minutes of noshing on my beloved figs while reclined in the tub with my thoughts, my therapist knocks on the door, signaling that it is time to exit the cocoon of the tub and move onto the table for the exfoliation portion of the treatment. Using the Sierra Buffer, an exfoliant comprised of fine pumice lava crystals infused with jojoba oil, neroli flower, amber, and jasmine, my therapist exfoliates my dry winter skin with the pressure and rhythm of a light massage.
Prior to the treatment, I had asked my therapist about the buffer, as my eczema-prone skin has reared its head at some body scrub treatments in the past, but she assured me that the product worked well with sensitive skin and that the lava crystals were more ball-like in physical structure and therefore, were much less abrasive than salt or sugar scrubs. Thirty blissful and squeaky-clean minutes later, I shower and rinse off the Sierra Buffer using the Sierra Cleanser, and lie back down on the table for part three: the massage.
The Sierra Moisturizer used for the massage is a unique, sheer, argan oil-based moisturizer with bamboo sap and vitamin A. Absorbing quickly, the scents of orange blossom, jasmine, and bourbon vanilla fill the air. The massage, which feels calculated to address all of my stress-induced achy spots, completes my Sierra Renewal Treatment, leaving me relaxed and rebooted to head back out into the wild of New York City…sans the stress.
