Treat Yourself to a Spa Day at Home!
Taking a day away from home or work to visit a spa is a great way to escape your stresses, but sometimes you need immediate relief…after hours. At-home spa treatments are great practices to unwind and give yourself (or a friend) some much needed pampering while saving time and money. An important element of all spa treatments is the ritual…in this case, soaking, relaxing, and making time just for you.
Here are some great at-home spa tips from Susie Ellis, SpaFinder President and spa expert.
Spa Pedicure – Everyone loves a real spa pedicure, but with this easy home treatment you don’t have to pay $50! Begin by soaking your feet in a bowl of warm water with small pebbles, which (can be purchased at any garden store and re-used – and for an extra treat, add rose or flower petals. Next, take a handful of coarse-grained sea salt and add your favorite scented oil – orange? Peppermint? It’s your spa-time and your choice. Then rub this cool scrub on your feet and legs for super-smooth skin. Follow with a luxurious body lotion. Of course you can do your usual pedicure post-scrub.
Body Wraps – Wraps are a special spa treat but can be pricey. Here’s an easy recipe that gets results. Mix equal parts aloe vera gel and shredded cucumber. Chill in the refrigerator, then apply to your feet, legs, arms, neck…you’re in charge. Cover the gel mixture with regular plastic wrap and relax with your favorite music for 15 to 20 minutes. Rinse and you’ll notice how hydrated (and cool) your skin feels.
Facials – Susie really likes this banana, honey, and yogurt facial. Plus, you can make up your own variation with different fruit or flavors. Simply mash ½ banana, then stir in two tablespoons of yogurt and one tablespoon of honey. Smooth evenly over your face and relax for 15 to 20 minutes. Rinse with cool water. You’ll see the difference.
And here’s a tip to protect your hair from the sun. Massage a few teaspoons of sesame oil into your hair and scalp. It has natural sun protection and also enriches your hair.
