Dance It Out: Babywearing Ballet
Babywearing Ballet has been making the fitness rounds, and this exercise trend is keeping new moms on their tippy toes, inviting those intent on being healthy to bring the babies along! No babysitters necessary.
And instead of wearing tutus, these moms plié and tendu with the best of them while sporting their babies in a Bjorn-type sling or carrier.
Dancer and mom-of-two Morgan Castner hosts a 45-minute class in Tustin, California, designed to allow new and expecting moms of all fitness levels to tone their bodies and bond with others. Ballet class begins with a series of plies, tendus, and degages at the ballet barre, followed by floor work that includes upper body port de bras and other choreography—all while holding on to the baby (the little ones obtain advantages like feeling mom’s movements and hearing classical music). Class concludes with the baby outside of the carrier, as moms target the core and stretch on mats. View a bit of Babywearing Ballet class in this video.
New moms, dance it out!
