Losing to Win in NYC
This week New Yorkers can register for the city’s Health Wage NYC Dieting for Dollars competition, ahe weight-loss competition that will pay out a cash prize to individual and corporate participants for a total of $18,000 in prize money.
With over a quarter of NYC’s adult population reported to be obese or overweight, and the city spending close to $3.5 billion on obesity-related medical costs, this friendly competition (or as friendly as you can be when competing over a $10,000 first-place prize) hopes to encourage New Yorkers to team together to lose weight and work toward a healthier lifestyle. Participants will compete with company partners including local individuals, health clubs, hospitals, and large employers for the team-based weight-loss initiative. This initiative will use Facebook and Twitter to motivate the teams to affect positive change.
How it works:
Teams of five will compete to see who can lose the greatest percentage of weight between June 15th and September 14th. The registration fee and weigh-in costs $60, and can take place at a local health club. The winning teams will get cash prizes — $10,000 for first place, $5,000 for second, and $3,000 for third! Other participants will be entered to win $100 cash for reducing their Body Mass Index.
