Take Your Workout Outside! Miraval’s Zen Boot Camp
by Pam Trudeau Miraval’s Fitness Supervisor, Miraval Resort & Spa
Making time to head to the gym can be tough, and purchasing all the new fitness equipment on the market would cost a fortune. However, it doesn’t take much to get an intense workout, especially now that the weather allows you to take your workouts outdoors. All you need is a little time, your own body weight and gravity.
Boot Camp or Primal Movement workout routines are a huge hit right now and for good reason: they deliver results! This type of training doesn’t have to mean waking up at 4am and meeting at the park with a group of strangers, you can take your favorite or “least favorite” circuits from Miraval’s Zen Boot Camp and challenge yourself in the comforts of your own home.
Our class takes place outside on the edge of the beautiful Sonoran Desert, giving you the chance to enjoy nature and a Zen ambiance; however the rest is pure boot camp! Plyometrics, Wind Sprints, where you run or power walk uphill, are interspersed with resistance work using your own body weight. Think Push-ups, Tricep Dips, Planks, Standing Core work, Squats and Jumping Jacks… they’re all there! You move quickly between segments, never stopping for long periods of time. This is your high school gym class on steroids.
Boot Camp workout routines are proof that you can get a high intensity, calorie-burning workout anywhere, anytime and with no equipment. For stamina and strength building, nothing is more effective than old-fashioned speed and agility drills paired with strength and core work. You can modify the moves and change the paces, but regardless Boot Camp always ends up being a challenging workout for everyone, no matter what your fitness level.
