Can the Spa Industry Learn Anything from the Conversation Going on in Davos?
Can the Spa Industry Learn Anything from the Conversation Going on in Davos?

The World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland is always an exciting “happening.” This year’s Forum is January 23rd through 26th so I have been following their website, blogs and YouTube videos. It is amazing how involved one can get right from home these days.
There are 2 reasons I like to keep up with the World Economic Forum:
1. Peter and I were honored to have attended this event twice – in the late 1990’s. Peter was invited to speak about the future of the Internet and his new company Auto by Tel. I have fond memories of our experience and thought it was the best-run gathering I have ever attended, finding that the international blend of people and topics was an outstanding learning opportunity.
2. The Global Spa Summit is modeled after the World Economic Forum and I like to observe the structure, programming, and “spirit” of Davos each year so that we might infuse the appropriate elements into the GSS meetings. Here are several links in case you might want to see what this year’s gathering of international business executives, politicians, artists, educators, etc. are talking about. Looking at the event through the lens of our spa industry and listening for conversations that might relate to spa trends always seems instructive.
World Economic Forum Website (where they post up-to-the-minute info from speakers, etc.)
Davos Diary Online (some interesting perspectives from various participants and others)
The Greatest Threat to Global Growth (results after polling attendees)
So far my assessment is that many of the topics: economy woes, collaboration needs, water and climate change are of importance to the spa industry also.
