From Russia with Love…For Spa!

Am currently in St. Petersburg visiting spas. The Russian spa industry is in its infancy, but already I can see the seeds of great spas. I thought I would share with you one particular observation that you might find interesting. Have you ever had a Russian massage therapist? Or an esthetician trained in Russia? If you have, you no doubt found them to be extremely skilled. That is because here in Russia therapists go through extensive medical training. One place I visited even had doctors performing massage! It does make a difference. The treatment becomes about more than just relaxation. Very impressive.

Tip:
Russian therapists aren’t the only ones with extensive medical training. Eastern European massages and skin care services are known for their clinical approach. On the other hand, spas in this part of the world are generally shorter on atmospheric extras such as candles, flowers, music, and lighting. Ambiance is something that North American and Asian spas excel in. When you travel, enjoy the strengths of each region’s spa industry.
