How Spas, Resorts, and Products are Celebrating Earth Day
Check out how these spas, resorts and product lines are celebrating and giving back for Earth Day.
Grail Springs Retreat Centre for Wellbeing – Bancroft, Ontario, Canada
After being inspired by two guests who took a self-imposed digital detox during their stay, Grail Springs is inviting guests on April 22 to take its Earth Day Challenge. For just three hours (or longer!) guests are encouraged to turn off their cell phones, computers, and televisions to spend the day outdoors. If you’re really looking to go free of technology, check in to the Body Detox Cleanse program and stay in one of the Forest Eco-Tabins, starting from $636 per person for 2-nights all-inclusive.
The Allison Inn & Spa – Newberg, Oregon
One of the few hotels in the world with LEED Gold Certification, The Allison Inn & Spa features solar hot water, photo voltaic cells which generate 7 percent of the electricity, zero plastic bottles on-site, sedum green eco-roofing on the west wing, and garden-to-table cuisine from the on-site greenhouse and garden. In celebration of Earth Day, the spa is inviting guests to enjoy 15 percent off spa experiences of 30 minutes or more from April 21-23. In addition to their spa treatment, guests will receive a complimentary lavender, cultivated from jory soil, in a biodegradable container.
Hiatus Spa + Retreat Austin and Hiatus Spa + Retreat Dallas – Texas
Hiatus Spa + Retreat is celebrating Earth Month this April with its third annual exclusive Flow Earth Month print by local Austin artist, Jan Heaton, special treatments at the spa, and a fundraising raffle featuring over $5,000 in spa product and treatment giveaways. All of these specials work together to raise money for the Hiatus Earth Month Fund and Hiatus’ $10,000 fundraising goal benefiting regional nonprofits and the Global Greengrants Fund to underwrite clean water initiatives around the globe in conjunction with Aveda Earth Month. The signature monthly retreat, inspired by Earth Month, is the Earth’s Embrace, which celebrates the Earth’s riches in a luxurious, skin-quenching experience while conserving water in honor of Earth Month. The treatment begins with a gentle dry brush exfoliation to smooth and tone skin, then a blend of melted cocoa and shea butters infused with a comforting blend of Madagascar vanilla, cinnamon, and ylang yang is spread over the skin with warm volcanic stones in a full-body massage. The stones are places inside the layers of a wrap as their cool and a reflexology session follows as well as a cool stone facial massage. You’re 80-minute treatment concludes with a cocktail!
LAVANILLA’s Plant a Billion Trees Mission – One Order. One Tree.
With a belief that every day should be Earth Day, LAVANILA joined the Nature Conservancy on its mission to plant 1 billion trees to bring back the once lush Atlantic Forest, where only 7 percent of the trees still exist today. What started in April 2009 has become an every day effort at LAVANILA. For every order placed on lavanila.com one tree is planted. As of last year, LAVANILA has helped plant over 17,000 trees. Help the cause today and get a fantastic all-natural product for yourself. Our recommendation? The Healthy Body Butter in the Vanilla Lavender scent ($19.00) which instantly smooths your skin without any greasy residue but with a long-lasting gorgeous aroma. We also love the Healthy Deodorant in Vanilla Passion Fruit ($14) which uses essential oils and beta glucan technology to keep you fresh all day without aluminum, parabens, or propylene glycol.

Grand Residences Riviera Cancun – Mexico
In order to help local plants, like the surrounding mangroves, flourish and survive, Grand Residences Riviera Cancun has been leading an extensive reforestation project. Leading this initiative is Resort Biologist Norma Rodriguez, an environmental engineer who has helped to raise about 100,000 mangrove and local species seedlings since 2008. With nearly four acres devoted to reforestation and landscaping, Grand Residences has been able to restore native species while limiting the invasion of foreign plants.
