I Have a Spa Pet Peeve (Pardon the Pun)
Dog spas.
OK, OK, let me add quickly that I am a dog lover and had a black Labrador for 15 years until her death a few years ago. And I did take her regularly for grooming and loved picking her up all clean and fresh-smelling. But I don’t like the term “dog spa” for several reasons. For one, I have to sift through a lot of dog spa press releases, which wastes my time. Secondly, I think it spreads the word “spa” too thin, causing some outstanding wellness facilities (such as Canyon Ranch) to wince at the term. And finally, it always reminds me of that crazy (and expensive) “pet hotel” in Newport Beach, California where the dogs have their own blankies, TV, toys, and framed pictures hung on the wall of their cages – oops, excuse me, I meant to say bedrooms.
Oh, I guess I better ‘fess up – that’s where I took my Lab. :)
