Let’s Talk: Wellness Lecture Series
Wellness travel is an excellent opportunity to kick start a healthy body image, as spas, hotels, resorts, and retreats provide an outlet to engage in many new exercise pursuits you may not have otherwise tried at home—from standup paddleboard yoga to boot camp on the beach. (Plus, 79 percent of travelers say they find it easier to make healthy changes in their lives when they’re in a new environment, outside of their daily routine.*) But it’s also wise to remember that a sound mind is a big part of making the path to healthy stick—and spas are stepping up to the plate, offering mindful wellness lectures to accompany workout options.
Here are a just a few examples:
Hilton Head Health: The destination spa’s 2015 InSPArational Series goes hand-in-hand with the grand opening of its new spa, The Indigo. Speakers for this series—themed around the concepts of inspiring, healing, and transforming—include Michelle Poitier, a 13-year U.S. Navy veteran (February 18-19), and Yummie brand founder and Real Housewives of New York star Heather Thomson (March 9-12).
SpaHalekulani: The monthly, 60-minute Living Well Lectures, led by SpaHalekulani’s Lifestyle Coach Kamala B. Skipper, aim to offer insight, tips, and tools to help spa-goers eat well and create healthier lifestyle choices. Lecture topics include: Jumpstart Your Health—New Year, New You! (January 31, 11 a.m.); Increasing the YUM Factor (February 28, 11 a.m.); and The Energy Solution (March 28, 11 a.m.). Lectures are $25 per session; complimentary to hotel guests. Paying participants will receive a $25 gift certificate to SpaHalekulani.
Cavallo Point: Various lectures throughout the year cater to both guests and the community; many are in partnership with the Institute at the Golden Gate. As well, “Tuesdays to Your Health” is a monthly, hour-long lecture series hosted by Dr. Brad Jacobs at Cavallo Point’s Healing Arts Center & Spa. Held select Tuesdays of the month, the complimentary lectures vary in topic (January’s theme was “The Path to Peace: Manage Stress & Cultivate Resilience”).
Golden Door: The Golden Door Friday Night Speaker Series began this month; the casual interview-style conversations, designed to be educational and inspirational, include speakers like actress and children’s author Jamie Lee Curtis, dancer and choreographer Yuichi Sugiyama, and psychologist and behaviorist Edith Eva Egers.
