Insider’s Guide to 2015 Trends: Industrial Revolution—Blue Collar Wellness
Corporate, employee, and workplace wellness is a hot topic (here at Spafinder Wellness, Inc.®, we even have a Corporate Wellness 365™ division, which helps companies establish a culture of health while at work), and high-profile businesses like the Googles and Apples of the world have been noted for the healthy offerings they make available to staff (cafeterias serving organic food, meditation classes, etc.). But these companies tend to be the exception: What we don’t typically see is an emphasis on healthy opportunities for the more, quote-unquote, blue collar-type workers—those in the industrial, transportation, service, manufacturing professions, etc. That will change going forward, according to our Spafinder Wellness 365™’s 2015 Global Spa & Wellness Trends Forecast. More companies in these sectors will not only acknowledge the benefits of wellness aspects like fitness programs, weight loss initiatives, and annual health screenings, but they will begin to implement them into their workplace.
These companies are already building up their wellness offerings.
- Bama Cos. Inc.: This Tulsa, Oklahoma-based bakery product producer offers employees amenities such as three fitness centers and 40-plus fitness programs.
- Jet Blue: Smoking cessation programs and participation in Ironman races are accessible to the airlines’ employees.
- PPG: The firm’s “Creating a Culture of Health Initiative”—scheduled to be fully implemented by 2020 across its 42,000-workers/150-locations worldwide platform—aims to deliver education and guidance on weight loss, exercise, relaxing, and other healthy living focuses.
- American Apparel: There’s no question this attire manufacturing company is a pioneer in providing workplace wellness programs in a factory setting. American Apparel provides its workers and their families wellness options like subsidized, affordable healthcare insurance, an on-site medical clinic, subsidized fitness options, and complimentary therapeutic massage.
