Live Your Dream Life, Get Your Dream Job & Find Your Dream Relationship
Resolve to make 2015 your year—the year you decide to feel good and live well all year round. The year you set new goals, stay positive, and find true health and happiness in yourself and your surroundings. So where to start? We reached out to Lisette Cifaldi, director of behavioral health at Hilton Head Health, who delivered with some amazing advice on living your dream life, getting your dream job, and finding your dream relationship. Here’s to 2015!
One of the strangest ironies about beginning a new year is that it always has us looking back. January first is filled with hope, the fuel that propels us forward, but before embracing the possibilities we reflect on the past. The problem with this strange ritual is that it’s often our assessment of the past that limits our future potential. In the new year before us, we strive to do a little better, but we let our past accomplishments be our gauge for what better should be.
What if you really allowed yourself to reach for the stars? Instead of using your past as a marker for your dreams, what if you decided that the new year holds a limitless dream, with limitless potential? Gravity doesn’t have to work twice as hard to hold an elephant to the ground as a mouse. The universe has infinite possibilities, so the size of your dreams has nothing to do with the likelihood of them coming true. Allow yourself to hold the best version of your potential in your sights…dream, imagine, and think big! The trick with imagination is remembering to use it. If YOU don’t believe in your own greatness, who will?
Getting Your Dream Job
Roman philosopher Seneca once said, “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.” So the key to landing your dream job is building the skill set, self-confidence and reputation necessary to be considered for the job, as well as pursuing the essential education the job requires. You need to know what being good at your dream job looks like in order to convert the dream into a logical plan of achievement. The interesting thing about this process is that it can be really fun. It seems overwhelming, but if you just start developing one vital skill, you are on your way!
Oh, and yes, you have to actually believe that one day you will have your dream job. Working in the career of your dreams starts with you believing in the dream. Dream, imagine, and think big!
Finding Your Dream Relationship
Ugh! Is there really such a thing as a dream relationship? It sounds a bit Pollyanna, doesn’t it? Well not if you define a dream relationship as one where you get to be your authentic self and someone you respect completely digs your authentic self.
We fantasize about our perfect match while making lists of deal breakers and preferences. Although doing so isn’t meaningless, inevitably the universe is going to shove someone into your path that looks nothing like your list. The surprising twist, however, is that they’ll be utterly perfect for you. Since the universe has a tendency to respond to the messages we put out there, why not just put the real, flawed, charming, irresistible you out there—the authentic you. The genuine, authentic you is a magnet for infinite, unlimited love because being authentic is expressing the truest love—love of self. When you inform the universe that you are loveable the way you are, the universe responds by sending you someone that appreciates the gift of you. Dream, imagine, and love big!
