Top 10 tips for easily surviving a detox
Thinking of doing a juice cleanse or other type of detox this autumn? Here are Hip & Healthy’s top 10 tips for getting through a detox in the colder months of the year to keep you glowing by the time spring returns.
Top 10 tips for surviving a detox
1. Be Social in Different Ways
So much of socialising revolves around alcohol or food, but this needn’t be the case. Dare to be different and have a catch up with a friend over a green juice. Or why not go for a walk together, or even a cinema trip followed by a herbal tea night cap?
2. Take up Yoga
Yoga is a great way of putting some ‘me time’ firmly in your diary. No phones, no internet, no kids, no distractions. It is also a great way to lightly exercise and get the blood pumping which in turn will aid the detoxification progress.
3. Drink lots of Herbal Tea
Herbal tea is a detox’s best friend. You can drink as much of it as you like and it will hydrate and satisfy you. Find your favourite and make sure you are fully stocked up. We always have some rooibos in the Hip & Healthy offices because it tastes so good and with a splash of oat or rice milk could actually pass for creamy.
4. Stick with the Programme
Try not to go off course as it is so much harder to get back into your healthy programme when you have let yourself have a few naughty treats. But if you do slip up, then don’t beat yourself up about it either – just get back straight into it. There is no time like the present.
5. Scented Candles
Scented candles can really help in creating a lovely calming atmosphere at home and the scent will actually help to keep your hand out of the biscuit tin too… Studies have shown that some scents are effective in suppressing appetite; lemon, patchouli and vanilla have been known to work wonders.
6. Bath Time
Support your body’s detox process by taking a lovely warm bath in Epsom Salts. The salts are said to not only replenish your body’s magnesium levels but also flush toxins out through the skin.
7. Sleep
You may not be consuming as many calories when you are detoxing and therefore getting into bed a little earlier will help your body to repair and heal anything it has been battling. You may even find that you are quite tired too as energy levels will be lower than usual at the beginning of our detox.
8. Indulge in a Massage
Massages are excellent at boosting the circulation and more specifically the lymphatic drainage system which will be working hard to rid your body of toxins. Plus they are a fabulous way to relax. Do we need any more excuses to have a massage? I thought not.
9. Water, Water, Water
Hydration is important always but it is key when detoxing. Again, by drinking lots of water you will help flush all the toxins out of your system. It will also help your skin to glow and keep your energy levels tip top.
10. Sort your Schedule
One of the most important things to ensure you stick to a detox is to schedule for it. Take temptation out of it. Organise to do your detox during a week when there are no parties, no big work lunches and no breakfast meetings. Schedule some time for you! Because you’re worth it…
