DIY Cashew Milk Recipe: Make Your Own Dairy-Free Milk at Home
Whether you avoid dairy because you are lactose intolerant, vegan, or simply because you want to shed a few pounds, you don’t have to give up milk for good! Nut milk is an excellent (and often better tasting) alternative to dairy milk and making it is really simple!
What you’ll need:
1 cup raw cashews
4 cups water
2 tablespoons maple syrup, honey, or agave
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
dash sea salt
pinch cinnamon (optional)
(cheese cloth – or even panty hose will do!)
What you’ll do:
1. Soak cashews in water overnight in the refrigerator. Drain and rinse until the water runs clear. Add the cashews and two cups water to a blender. Start on a low and increase intensity until the cashews are liquid. Blend in the final 2 cups of water, add sweetener, vanilla, salt, and cinnamon.
2. Place the cheese cloth or panty hose over a pitcher and pour the blended mixture through the cloth. Store, covered, in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
Recipe makes 5 cups. Use less water for creamier milk.
