Ask Susie: Spas in the Southeast

My wife and I are looking for a spa in the southeastern U.S. similar to Rancho La Puerta for fitness, spa activities, and wellness.”

If you love Rancho La Puerta (as do I – in fact I was just there last week), it isn’t going to be easy to find a replacement in the Southeast.  Places similar to Rancho La Puerta are more easily found in other parts of the southwest, such as Arizona that has Canyon Ranch, Miraval, Mii Amo, or Utah which hosts Red Mountain or Green Valley.  On the east coast, a Canyon Ranch is also located in the Berkshires. 

If you are absolutely committed to the southeast there are several places that might fit the bill – although they wouldn’t necessarily replace Rancho La Puerta’s extensive programming, outstanding food, and commitment to environmental sustainability.  And there definitely isn’t a Mount Kuchumaa. 

Pritikin – Doral, Florida (excellent health, fitness, and nutrition program with emphasis on very little or no salt, a medical aspect as well) 

Hilton Head Health– Hilton Head, South Carolina (focus on health and weight loss)

Westglow – Blowing Rock, North Carolina (One of the Carolinas, part resort, part destination spa…great rejuvenation center)

The Crossings – Austin, Texas (more laidback and possibly hippy-like.)
