5 Most Luxurious Surfing Vacations
One of the world’s hottest wellness travel trends is surfing, which is currently seeing a perfect wave of expanded demographics and global reach, says Spafinder Wellness 365™’s 2016 Global Spa & Wellness Trends Report. New surfing + wellness properties are establishing themselves everywhere you need to catch a break—find your perfect wave at one of these five luxurious surfing vacations.
Hotel Komune: Hotel Komune is the brainchild of Tony de Leede, founder of Gwinganna Lifestyle Retreat, and Tony Cannon; together, the two had the genius idea to open properties at the world’s best surf breaks. Hotel Komune Bali, the brand’s flagship property, celebrates surfing at Karamas Beach in East Bali; in 2015, the destination further expanded its offerings with a “health hub” facility that transformed the surf resort into a complete fitness and wellness destination.
Hotel del Coronado: California boasts several surf + wellness resorts, and San Diego’s historic Hotel del Coronado is one of them. Here, a beautiful spa that celebrates the sea’s healing properties marries with spinning and surfing classes on the beach.
Four Seasons Resort at Kuda Huraa: This luxury Maldivian resort makes a splash with water enthusiasts, courtesy of its Tropicsurf school; for the ultimate surfing experience in the Indian Ocean, adventurists can book a seven- or 10-day Tropicsurf “surfari” adventure to hidden atolls.
Turtle Bay Resort: Oahu’s North Shore is not only home to world-famous breaks but to Turtle Bay Resort. Revel in the property’s fantastic water sports menu and take part in its surfing and stand-up paddleboarding schools at the Hans Hedemann Surf Center. Private, semi-private, and group lessons are available. Read more about our recent Turtle Bay Resort visit.
Aqua Wellness Resort: Located near famed waves, Nicaragua’s Aqua Wellness Resort is a barefoot-luxury, treehouse-style property that combines surfing lessons, yoga, meditation, and spa treatments with organic cuisine. Lionheart/Six Senses recently took over the property, with plans for a $20-$40-million upgrade that will morph the destination into the first Six Senses in Central America.
These are just a few of the countless luxury surfing vacations around the globe: Discover more about the wellness-meets-surfing wave, including additional surf + wellness retreats (and excursions like Las Olas Surf Safaris for Women!), in our 2016 trends report.
