Lake Placid – Day 2: Thrills, Hills, and a Delectable Body Scrub
As the title suggests, my last full day here in Lake Placid was chock-full of activities that ranged from adrenaline-inducing to luxuriously relaxing. Here are some highlights of my last day in Lake Placid:
9 a.m.: Mirror Lake Inn’s Maple Sugar Body Scrub was as sweet as the name suggests (more to come in a later post!), and the spa facilities were as beautiful and relaxing as the Inn itself.
11:30 a.m.-2 p.m.: After a walk through town (and an amazing antique mousse-shaped doorknocker purchase, followed by lunch at The Cottage at Mirror Lake Inn), we were on our way to bobsledding! With butterflies in my stomach, three of us hopped into the bobsled and 54 seconds and three-quarters of a mile later, we were all smiles and were ready to go again. For a taste of the ride, watch the video below!
3-5 p.m.: Not only was this my first cross country skiing experience, but it was done on the Olympic Biathlon trail, which boasts cross-country ski trails that range over 50 km of rolling Adirondack terrain. How lucky am I? The snow was falling, and the scenery was breathtaking as we passed by brooks and moved along under the towering, snow-covered trees. It was quite the workout with all of the little hills, but with a winter wonderland backdrop like this, I’d be working out every day!
7 p.m.: A five-star dinner at The Mirror Lake Inn’s restaurant, The View, with the ladies and Jon Lundin of ORDA, and MaryJane Lawrence, the Inn’s spa and marketing director (or, Four-Diamond, as it was awarded the AAA 4-Diamond Award of Excellence, in addition to being an eleven-time winner of Wine Spectator‘s Dining Guide Award of Excellence). While breakfast is delicious, and the view during the day is amazing, the restaurant takes on a completely different ambiance at night with long tapered candles and a roaring fireplace to set the mood. Rack of wild boar, anyone? I love that they feature local vegetables and meats, free of hormones and antibiotics when they can – be sure to check back on Club Spa for their recipes!
11 p.m.: Now back in my room with a full stomach and a soon-to-be sore body, wishing I had another spa appointment booked before I take off tomorrow!
