Readers’ Choice Awards: Top 10 Best Spas for Healthy Cuisine
We have some major foodies here in the SpaFinder® Wellness offices, which makes the “best spas for healthy cuisine” category of our Readers’ Choice Awards one of our favorites year after year. Here’s the dish on the Top 10 winners for 2012 that put the “eat” in “treat.”
Canyon Ranch, Massachusetts Resort – Lenox, MA: Entice your taste buds with award-winning healthy cuisine while you’re here, but also make sure to schedule a consult with a Canyon Ranch nutritionist and spend time with one of the resort’s chefs to learn nutritious habits and cooking techniques.
Canyon Ranch, Arizona Resort – Tucson, AZ: You can eat as many courses as you can manage during mealtimes at Canyon Ranch, Arizona (and who can blame you with its delicious options?) — it’s all included in your stay. And (we love this) nutritional stats take the place of prices on the menu.
Canyon Ranch Hotel & Spa in Miami Beach – Miami, FL: We’re starting to sound like a broken record, but who can blame our readers for voting in another Canyon Ranch property?!
Champneys Forest Mere – Hampshire, UK: Only nutritious fare is served at the resort’s restaurants. Dishes emphasize fresh, local ingredients and are high in fiber and low in saturated fats, sugar, and salt.
Chiva-Som – Hua Hin, Thailand: Chiva-Som’s chef has visited our SpaFinder offices in the past, so I can vouch for our readers and their votes for making this destination spa among the Top 10 — the food is excellent, leaving you satisfied yet feeling light at the same time.
Golden Door Spa – Escondido, CA: Golden Door takes a thoughtful approach to its inventive, wholesome cuisine, which is largely prepared with vegetables, herbs, and fruits grown on property. Fish is freshly sourced from the nearby Pacific Ocean, and poultry dishes stress locally raised, free-range chicken or turkey, the spa says. Personal eating plans can be created upon request.
Longevity Wellness Resort Monchique – Monchique, Portugal: Dine on Longevity Cuisine, aka healthful, gourmet Mediterranean cuisine that celebrates both the culinary traditions and the locally sourced, seasonal ingredients of the Algarve.
Mii amo, a destination spa – Sedona, AZ: Mii amo’s menu changes constantly, so you never get bored! Dishes are rich in fresh, organic ingredients, and you’re welcome to dine solo or sit at a community table with other spa-goers during meals. Foodies can also enjoy cooking demos, go on organic garden tours, or try jaunts like Mii amo’s Journey of Teas.
Rancho La Puerta, Tecate, Baja California, Mexico: Get a taste of Rancho La Puerta’s famed all-natural diet, which has been honed over 60 years (the Ranch calls itself “the birthplace of spa cuisine — a low-fat, high-flavor renaissance”); the developed, researched, tested, and proven recipes use freshly picked fruits and veggies from Rancho La Puerta’s organic farm.
The Farm at San Benito – Batangas, Philippines: Dine at the Farm’s vegan restaurant, ALIVE!, which follows an “85% raw, 15% cooked” gastronomic philosophy. A majority of the produce used is freshly harvested each day from an on-site organic garden; as well, the Farm’s Kitchen Garden manufactures a variety of sprouts, and a Wheat Grass Bungalow creates wheat grass for juices.
