Spa Trend: Sleep Spas
I Took a Nap. It Was All Yelo.
By: Gracey Newman
I giggled when I heard of napping at a spa but after my experience at Yelo Spa I am sold! The sleep pod is a room that is insulated from the sounds of the spa and the noise of the New York streets (I wish I had this in my apartment). I selected the music I wanted in the background; options include Jazz, White Noise, Zen etc. I chose Zen music and then I was escorted into the sleep pod where Anna explained the napping process. I took off my shoes and sat in the chair.
When you are ready to nap, the chair is reclined but your knees stay bent. I was incredibly comfortable in the almost-fetal position. Anna wrapped my feet and draped a blanket over me. Then the lights were turned very dim and I drifted into peacefulness. Instead of an annoying alarm or someone knocking at the door, the wake up system is like a sunrise! The lighting starts dim and over the course of 3 minutes, wakes you up by emulating a sun rise with pastel tones. After my 40 minute nap I was searching for the snooze button.
I can see the value in napping especially for hard-working New Yorkers. Yelo offers some packages that include a 10 minute massage to help you relax and then a power nap. I will definitely be back!
