Lefay Resort & SPA Lago di Garda Becomes the First Ecocert Certified Property in Italy
Lefay Resort & SPA Lago di Garda’s eco-conscious initiatives have earned the accoladed property Italy’s first Ecocert acknowledgment. Ecocert is a globally recognized leader in implementing and distinguishing sustainable, organic, and green practices and products. To earn Ecocert’s “Being – Organic and Ecological Spa,” Level: Excellence, Lefay Spa had to surpass and excel at 50 rigorous benchmarks: These checkmarks combine ecological standards with premier programming, hospitality, staff training, and knowledge. Lefay is only the fourth outpost worldwide to receive this covetable distinction.
TripAdvisor, Condé Nast Traveler, and Green Globe had further applauded Lefay’s commitment to conservation and service. Cuddled by rolling hills and a vast waterfront, the serene locale took home Spafinder’s 2015 Wellness Travel Award for “Best in Italy.”
Following the belief that “personal wellness should never overlook environmental wellness,” Lefay’s architectural design reduces annual carbon emissions by 1,130 tons. The property also voluntarily works with the Italian Ministry of Environment to examine how tourism can reduce its carbon footprints.
Currently, 85% of the Lefays heating comes from renewable energy, as does 100% of its cooling and air purification – 75% of which is self-produced. All its electricity sprouts from renewable sources and 60% of this total is generated on site. Recycling is also a top priority at Lefay, and spa cosmetics are free of parabens, sulfates, artificial colors, and petrochemicals.
