Victoria’s Secret Angels “Share” Their Runway-Ready Workouts
Social media helps us all stay connected and share some of life’s cutest, funniest and most bad-ass moments. Best of all, networks like Instagram and Twitter give us an inside look into the lives of celebs and models that we clearly wouldn’t get otherwise. This year was the first that Instagram played a big part in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show—aka the night in between Thanksgiving and New Year’s that makes you wish you had decided to skip on that second piece of grandma’s famous apple pie. From the shots rumored to be behind the Selena-Justin breakup (yes, my heart is STILL breaking) to behind-the-scenes sneak peeks at outfits (or lack-thereof) and performances (RiRi is said to have stolen the show!), we were eating them all up, as we were eating our late-night snack…or was that just me?
Better than all of the above were the pre-show workout routine shots that the Angels themselves were posting in the weeks leading up to the grand event, giving us all an actual game plan for how to get a rock-hard runway bod. We’ve rounded up some of our fave Angels’ Instagrams and want to share some ways you too can incorporate their diet and exercise tips into a routine of your own!

Secret weapon: Boxing
So yes, following this blue-eyed, black-haired, Brazilian beauty may, perhaps, put just a little damper on your self-esteem; I mean, she’s the mother of two(!), but in the weeks leading up to the epic lingerie runway show, she gave followers a look at her fave workout: boxing. “My favorite workout is boxing because it helps to keep me in shape both mentally and physically,” the Angel typed to followers via Instagram. No makeup, bloody-knuckled and drenched in sweat—it soon became no secret how this mommy of two has a body to die for. Along with former #1 ranked middleweight boxer and co-founder of Aerospace NYC, Michael Olajide, Lima punched, pounded and pulverized her way through a boxing workout to a runway-ready bod.
Candice Swanopoel

Secret weapon: Boxing
This bombshell blonde easily posted the most envy-worthy ab shot we’ve ever seen, and just a few days prior, a photo of her hands—bloodied up boxing style.
Another plus is that Swanopoel, along with her trainer Justin Gelband, participated in the Train Like an Angel series that you can watch for free on victoriassecret.com.

Secret weapon: Motivation
Newcomer to the VS runway, Hilary Rhoda shared this pic from Gotham Gym in NYC with followers commenting “#VSFashionShow training…You get out what you put in!” Which, as we all know, is SO true—but how do we stay motivated to keep giving it our all? Three-time World Kettlebell Champion Lorna Kleidman says, “The best way to stay motivated is to first find and stick with a workout that you love. You must be transported to exercise ecstasy!” Kleidman also recommends finding people who inspire you and find out what they do to work out and how they manage it into their schedule. “When you’re feeling lazy and uninspired, imagine them lacing their sneakers, eager to get their workout on. You’ll be amazed how your energy will suddenly lift!” explains Kleidman. “Don’t hesitate to look for others who are already in the place you want to be, and know that soon you’ll be someone’s inspiration too!”
Don’t fret if you don’t see the Angel Effect right away. “Keep your goals realistic by breaking them down into micro goals,” urges Kleidman. “For example, if you want to lose 50 pounds or drop four sizes, create a goal for each month and each week. Write everything down: your workouts, how you’re feeling, as well as everything you ingest. These details will help you get to know yourself and your workout style; where your strengths are, and where you tend to lag. This knowledge will foster confidence to reach for new goals in the future.”

Secret weapon: Calorie counting
Ranked the #1 Supermodel in the World, this Puerto Rican beauty shared her calorie-counting watch (flashing 862 calories burned!!) with followers after a particularly grueling workout with the caption “getting ready for #VictoriaSecret [sic].”
Kleidman says, “I’d be interested in knowing how long it took to burn those calories; after all, time is important. But it does take effort, that’s why it’s vital to find a workout that you love.”

Secret weapon: Pilates
Opting for pliés and arabesques, Lindsay Ellingson can thank Ballet Beautiful in New York and hardcore Pilates sessions for her catwalk bod. Lindsay comments, “Just finished Pilates, intense but amazing workout for #vsfashionshow prep.”

Secret weapon: Eating breakfast
Dutch born model and actress and fifth on Forbes list of highest-paid models, Doutzen Kroes knows the secret to getting fit before an epic event: changing your breakfast! Kroes instagrammed a photo of the ingredients for her breakfast smoothies in the week leading up to the VS Fashion Show, and it was packed full of organic hunza mulberries, raw chia seeds, Himalayan goji berries, acai powder, flaxseed and more delicious and nutritious fixings. Change up your diet by adding a healthy smoothie substitute in the morning—here are some of our favorite recipes to do just that!
Kleidman shared her best breakfast with us, which for some is more realistic that a smoothie. “The best breakfast is one with a combination of complex carbs, some fat and protein. This blend will give you energy for the whole morning and keep blood sugar levels steady. Slow-cooked oatmeal with one tsp almond butter and two scrambled eggs, plus coffee, of course! Don’t have time for eggs? Mix the protein powder into your oatmeal with the almond butter.”
With all of these great tips and insights, we’re all bound to be runway ready by next year’s VS Fashion Show!
