New Year. New You. New Wellness Trends!
2023 is officially here, and it’s the best time to build healthy habits for the year ahead. We’re talking both in and out of the spa. You see, we may be called Spafinder, but our brand is defined by living your best life in every location. At home, work, school, and yes, on the massage table. You deserve to look and feel your best during every second of 2023, and all it takes is trying a few expert-approved wellness trends. Some are classics that never go out of style, while the rest are brand new and bound to work flawlessly, courtesy of modern technology and a self-improvement state of mind. What kind of wellness maven will you be in 2023? Here are the top wellness trends to try in the upcoming months:
Period movement
Menstruation is something that roughly 26 percent of the global population experiences, so why is it not better understood? From cycle regularity and proper hygiene to access to affordable products, the “period movement” of 2023 is a wellness trend aiming to erase stigmas and enhance knowledge for all. People with periods can track their cycles with technology, while more people are understanding the importance of product access. Governments and charities around the world are trying to end period poverty by providing free menstruation tools to low-income communities. And several states in the US have eliminated taxes on such items. This is just the beginning of the period movement, and you can learn more about how to help at Period.org.
Biometric trackers
Many of us use biometric data every day when we unlock our phones with Face ID or fingerprints. Now this trend is making its way into broader healthcare. In other words, your Fitbit won’t just be tracking your daily steps but also advanced information like missing hormones, blood pressure, oxygen levels and more. 2023 calls for less general health advice like “eat more vegetables” or “get your steps in” (though you still should!) and more personalized health plans courtesy of biometric data. How do you get this done? It’s super easy and accessible! Wellness labs, and fitness profile tests, will be popping up at your local pharmacies like CVS and Walgreens, in addition to bio stations in every city to aid in customized health and prevention of diseases.
IV Therapy
While IVs are often associated with medicine, the year 2023 will have you using the term in the same sentence with “energy,” “glowing skin,” “concentration,” and more! Vitamin IV therapy is more than a glamorous wellness trend used by millions of people, from celebrities to your favorite coworkers. It entails your technician creating a custom wellness cocktail, complete with all your favorite vitamins, and injecting it directly into your bloodstream for immediate results. Seriously, practitioners claim these vitamins have a 2% to 30% higher absorption rate when delivered into your vein than they would in a pill or applied on your skin. Look for vitamin replenishment in every city in all types of vitamin IV therapy treatments at your local wellness center — whether you’re hoping to brighten your skin, ease period cramps, improve your concentration and so much more!
Sea-inspired snacks and skincare
The answer to your 2023 wellness routine lies at the bottom of the ocean, in the form of the best SEA-sonal delights. (We had to say it.) Just take a look at ocean-inspired products in our Spafinder store — like the Sea Clay Cleansing Mask, Dead Sea Salt Soak, and Travertine Spa Facial Moisturizer with sea minerals. They all work together to give your skin a mermaid-inspired glow, while many believe that sea moss is a superpowered anti-aging ingredient known to help your skin produce collagen and keratin. We love that for you! In addition to skincare, you can also look to the sea for your snacking schedule. Seaweed wraps and scallops help to benefit your body inside and out, with the bonus of being absolutely delicious. So why not live out your “under the sea” fantasies with this 2023 wellness trend?
Female-owned businesses
Female entrepreneurship is on the rise, making up 56% of new businesses in 2021, and the number is only expected to increase in the coming year! We told you a while back about working moms and how they can get a break, but the truth is that women are truly owning the workforce. These women are helping to champion female empowerment by breaking into previously male-dominated spaces, like tech and manufacturing. In short, they are making their dreams a reality. Often right from their dining room table as they juggle family life, balance their stress levels, and prove themselves as the ultimate superheroes. Are you a woman thinking about starting a business in the new year? Add it to your list of goals and be part of a hot wellness trend.
Virtual fitness apps
Virtual reality is nothing new, but it’s getting a wellness twist in 2023 with Quest Meta. The platform transports users from their living rooms into the metaverse, helping them play their favorite sports at home. Have you ever wanted to start boxing, but were too afraid of getting bruised up? Fire up Meta Quest 2 and start boxing virtually with your favorite people, helping you combine healthy exercise and friend hangouts for the ultimate act of wellness. Or are you more of a soccer, tennis, or cardio type of person? The options are endless with virtual fitness apps, which will definitely make the exercise-from-home trend even bigger in 2023!
Bookstores
For some people, particularly millennials, books and bookstores never truly went out of style. For the rest who never jumped on the trend, have no fear, as you’re about to become a major bookworm in 2023. Barnes and Noble is launching a series of experiential bookstores set to open throughout the year, serving as a safe haven for wellness. You’ll get to read in solitude and discover your new favorite stories, yes, but also so much more. These quiet spots are a welcome place to relax and retreat, flipping through pages as you converse with your fellow bookworms and make a few new friends along the way. What’s better for your wellness routine than grand stories and great friends?!
Mocktails
Out with the alcohol, in with the mocktails! One of the biggest wellness trends of 2023 involves non-alcoholic bars that people can visit to mix and mingle, and it’s safe to say that we’re intrigued. Alcohol has long been linked to social activity, but experts believe that doesn’t need to be the case. As the year starts off with Dry January, more people will refrain from wine, beer, and martinis and opt for softer drinks instead.
Essentially, they’re trading hangovers for sober hangouts with old and new friends, and we think it’s the best thing ever. Look for real conversations about the issues with alcohol—the hangovers, the setbacks from a nutritive level, male impotence and overall fertility for all genders. Plus, there is the mental health impact. Our suggestion? Improve your physical and mental health by swapping out alcohol for mocktails, and making it a point to drink eight daily glasses of water to supplement them… you won’t regret it. (And check out this article on Dry January from the Spafinder archives.)
Women-centric Travel
We’ve long told you about the benefits of a girlfriend getaway, whether you’re lounging by the ocean in Huntington Beach, CA, bringing the heat in Scottsdale, AZ, or anything in between! 2023 is the time to focus even more on these empowering female friendships, joining your besties for a bestiemoon or bestievacation on the regular. No self-improvement courses, no sweating away in the gym… just you and your crew as you enjoy massages and facials. These trips will help to keep your relationships and relaxation levels strong, and there’s no greater way to practice wellness in 2023 and beyond.
